In a rush to get carpets cleaned before moving into a new home 3 hours away, I was sure that it would never happen. But, 2 minutes after I left Brian a message, he returned my call... after business hours! He had me at the great customer service, but on top of that, he did an amazing job of getting stains out of the carpet that I was convinced would never come out. I would highly recommend Brian!

Common questions and tips from our work with Paulding customers.
- Can wet carpet be saved after a basement flood?
- Sometimes. It depends on where the water came from, how long it sat, and the condition of the pad. Clean water from a supply line that is extracted and dried early gives the carpet a good chance. Groundwater or sewage backup carries contamination, and the pad usually has to be replaced even if the carpet can be cleaned. An on-site look is the only honest way to tell.
- Why does carpet need more than surface drying after water damage?
- Carpet pad soaks up water like a sponge and holds it against the subfloor long after the top of the carpet feels dry. That trapped moisture is what leads to a musty smell, mildew and loosened backing. Proper drying means extracting as much water as possible, then moving air across and under the carpet until the pad and floor beneath it are dry, not just the fibers.
Tip
What to do before help arrives
Stop the water at its source if you can, such as a shutoff valve. If water is near outlets or cords, keep clear and shut off power to that area at the breaker only when it is safe to reach. Lift furniture off the wet carpet or set it on blocks, move rugs and boxes out, and take photos of the damage for your records.
Tip
Check your sump pump before the wet season
Many basement carpets get soaked because a sump pump fails during heavy rain. Before spring, pour a bucket of water into the pit and make sure the float rises and the pump kicks on and empties it. Check that the discharge line outside is clear and not frozen, and consider a battery backup for storms that knock out the power.
